Coalition for International Criminal Justice calls for ICC special working group on ecocide
Summary
On December 10 2023, the Coalition for International Criminal Justice (CICJ) issued a statement calling upon the States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to establish a Special Working Group on Ecocide.
A Special Working Group was the mechanism by which the Crime of Aggression, originally absent from the Rome Statute, was defined before being adopted in 2010.
The statement was issued during the Assembly of States Parties (ASP) which took place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The Stop Ecocide Foundation co-hosted an official side event at the ASP, co-hosted by Permanent Missions of the Republic of Vanuatu and Samoa to the United Nations.
